The opening concert in Beijing – Lahti Symphony Orchestra touring in China

This week the Lahti Symphony Orchestra with Osmo Vänskä will start the concert tour in China. All concert halls belong to the most important ones in China. The opening concert will take place in the Century Theatre in Beijing on Friday, 9th December 2005. The other concerts will be played in Shanghai Oriental Art Center on 11.12., Hangzhou Grand Theatre on 12.12. and Xianghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou on 13.12. The concert program includes the tone poem Tapiola, fifth and seventh symphonies by Jean Sibelius.

Companies UPM-Kymmene Oyj and Tikkurila Oy of the Support Organization Symphonically Together give financial help for the tour. Other supporting companies and organizations are Oilon Oy, Kemppi Oy and Lahti Regional Development Company Ltd., all located in Lahti. Finnair Oyj, The Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, The Regional Council of Päijät-Häme and the Finnish Performing Music Promotion Centre have as well given support for the tour.

Earlier in this year Symphony Orchestra of Lahti has made two successful concert tours abroad. In January the orchestra gave a series of concerts in United States of America and in November in Germany and in Vienna at the legendary Musikverein.
