Spirit of Nature

Lahti SO’s new Sibelius recording includes again world première recordings

29/03/2006

The Lahti Symphony Orchestra has released its new Sibelius recording ’Spirit of Nature’ (BIS-CD-1565), which is a part of the Sibelius complete edition project of the BIS record label. Conducted by Chief Conductor Osmo Vänskä, the new cd includes the highlight of Sibelius’s orchestral songs, Luonnotar, in which the soloist is soprano Helena Juntunen. The other soloists in the recording are the winner of the Singer of the World Competition in Cardiff, baritone Tommi Hakala and bass Jyrki Korhonen. The choir parts are sung by the Dominante Choir. Out of the total of twelve pieces in the recording, five are world première recordings: Höstkväll (for soprano and string orchestra), Hertig Magnus (for soprano and orchestra), Kullervon valitus (for bass and orchestra, version from 1957), I natten (for baritone and orchestra) and Impromptu (for women’s chorus and orchestra). Other pieces of the recording include e.g. Overture in E major and Väinön virsi.
