The Potemkin performances at Sibelius Hall on 19-21 January 2006 collected an audience of about 5000 persons

Lahti Symphony Orchestra accompanied three Battleship Potemkin silent film performances in Sibelius Hall on 19-21 January 2005. The live performance with the symphony music by Dmitry Shostakovich was the debut in Finland, in which Lahti Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Esa Heikkilä. All three concerts were sold out with an audience of about 3 300 persons. Before each film performances Professor Peter von Bagh, a top film specialist in Finland, lectured on the film for 1 600 persons in total. The Potemkin production has been a great success all round the world.
The first performance of the film classic Potemkin was given 80 years ago in Moscow in Bolshoi Theatre. This year is the 100 year’s celebration of the birth of Dmitry Shostakovich, one of the most important composers of the 20th century.
