Tours 2006-2007

Lahti Symphony tours in 2006/07 in e.g. Japan, at the Berlin Philharmonie and Vienna Musikverein

During the concert year 2006-2007 the Lahti Symphony Orchestra has many major international concert tours. Conducted by Chief Conductor Osmo Vänskä, the orchestra has its third tour in Japan on 4-13 October 2006, and on 26 February 2007 it has its debut concert at the Berlin Philharmonie. In Berlin the soloist is one of today’s most exciting pianists, Hélène Grimaud. After the concert in Berlin the orchestra travels with Vänskä to Vienna, where they perform three residency concerts at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein on 28 February and 1-2 March 2007 with programmes with Finnish music only. In addition the orchestra gives a concert at the Musikfest Bremen on 2 September 2006 with conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

Japan, November 2006

The Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Osmo Vänskä have had earlier two successful tours in Japan in 1999 and 2003. As the result of the first tour the leading Japanese music critics chose the Lahti SO as the best orchestra performing in Japan in 1999, and in 2003 Sibelius’s Kullervo, which the orchestra performed in Tokyo, was voted by Japanese critics as the best classical performance in Japan that year. The soloist of the third tour is young Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen. The tour programme includes e.g. Tapiola, Second and Fifth Symphony by Sibelius, Symphony No. 7 ‘Angel of Light’ by Rautavaara and Piano Concerto by Grieg. The tour schedule is as follows:

Berlin-Vienna, February-March 2007

In February-March 2007 the Lahti SO tours with Vänkä in Berlin and Vienna. The orchestra’s debut concert at the world-famous Berlin Philharmonie is on 26 February 2007 and the soloist there is one of today’s most exciting pianists, Hélène Grimaud, who plays the Concerto by Schumann. The other works of the concert are Tapiola and Symphony No. 7 by Sibelius and Interludes from the opera ‘The Last Temptations’ by Kokkonen.

In November 2005 the Lahti SO made its successful debut with Vänskä at the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, and this time the orchestra performs there three residency concerts on 28 February and 1-2 March 2007. In Vienna the soloists are violinist Réka Szilvay and pianist Paavali Jumppanen, and the concert programmes consist of Finnish music only, e.g. Fourth and Seventh Symphonies, Tapiola and Violin Concerto by Sibelius, Piano Concerto No. 2 by Aho, Interludes from the opera ‘The Last Temptations’ by Kokkonen and Symphony No. 7 ‘Angel of Light’ by Rautavaara.


Bremen, September 2006

In addition the Lahti SO performs at the Musikfest Bremen (Die Glocke, Grosser Saal) on 2 September 2006 with conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste. The soloist there is pianist Boris Berezovsky and the programme consist of e.g. the Symphony No. 2 by Sibelius and Piano Concerto by Grieg. The orchestra and Saraste perform also at the Turku Music Festival on 19 August 2006.
