Wide-ranging Repertoire in Lahti Symphony Orchestra’s and Saraste’s Concert Season 2008−2009

New era will begin in Lahti Symphony Orchestra, when Jukka-Pekka Saraste joins orchestra and becomes its Artistic Advisor. Saraste has already been part of planning the programme of season 2008−2009. “Programme of concert season 2008−2009 has been a product of fluent collaboration of orchestra’s programme work group and mine”, Saraste tolds and continues: “Orchestra has come up with plenty of distinguished programme ideas and we have tried to create in good collaboration wholeness which presents widely orchestra’s possibilities.”
Of the great artists Lahti will welcome on next season is to be mentioned along with Jukka-Pekka Saraste at least conductors Mark Wigglesworth, Susanna Mälkki, Carlos Kalmar, Eri Klas and Martyn Brabbins. Of the guest soloists worth mentioning are pianists Marc-André Hamelin, Nikolai Demidenko and Ronald Brautigam, violinists Alina Pogostkina, Chloë Hanslip, Elina Vähälä and Barnabás Kelemen, clarinetist Kari Kriikku, cellist Andreas Brantelid and bass singer Matti Salminen. In the end of October Jukka-Pekka Saraste’s leads orchestra to St. Petersburg, where they will have a concert at St. Petersburg State Capella on 31st of October with violinist Ilja Gringolts. On the 9th of October Finland’s clarinet-icon Kari Kriikku will perform with the orchestra after a long time. He will perform contemporary Finnish music by Jukka Tiensuu and also Klezmer-music. Music Director of Ensemble Contemporain Susanna Mälkki will be conducting Lahti Symphony Orchestra on 11th of December. On symphonic spring term orchestra will have a visit by Marc-André Hamelin, who will perform Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto under baton by Mark Wigglesworth. The winner of International Paulo Cello Competition Andreas Brantelid will perform on 12th of February and Orchestra’s composer-in-residence Kalevi Aho will celebrate his 60th anniversary in concert on 5th of March where his Insect Symphony will be performed. Orchestra’s solo cellist Ilkka Pälli will play Dmitri Shostakovich’s 2nd Cello Concerto on 12th of March. Lahti Symphony Orchestra began regular visits to Hämeenlinna in autumn of 2007 and these appearances will continue on concert season 2008−2009 with nine concerts. Concerts will include Alina Pogotskina’s visit when she will perform Mozart programme with conductor Moshe Atzmonin and Jukka-Pekka Saraste’s concert on February with Andreas Brantelid on cello. classicLive

Among orchestra’s are, besides Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Brussels’ Philharmonic with the Flemish Radio Choir.
