Concert year 2010-2011

Concert year 2010-2011 of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra includes world première performances and large-scale works

07/05/2010

The third and last concert year of conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste as artistic advisor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra will introduce a.o. world première performances and large-scale classics. 'The programme of the concert year 2010-2011 will be a versatile and rich collection of music. I find it especially interesting that there are many fine works, which are generally performed pretty rarely, such as oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri by Schumann, Mathis der Maler by Hindemith and the 1877 version of Bruckner's Symphony No. 3'. Saraste tells.

The world première performances of the concert year will be Double Concerto for cello and accordion by Olli Virtaperko, and Leika and orchestral suite from the film Under the North Star by Jaakko Kuusisto. In the end of the spring season will be heard the Finnish première of Kalevi Aho's Symphony No. 15, which is commissioned by BBC and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.

Symhphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler will be heard in Lahti for the first time in March, conducted by Saraste.  In May will be performed Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri, a work with several soloists a choir, conducted by Andreas Spering. A work for large orchestra, Minea by Kalevi Aho, originally commissioned by the Minnesota Orchestra, will be heard in February with Osmo Vänskä.
