SYMPHONY CONCERT – 500 years from the Reformation

Bach – Bach – Bach – Mendelssohn

In the autumn of 2017 it will be 500 years since Martin Luther reputedly nailed his Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. The Lahti Symphony Orchestra remembers this Reformation year with a concert entirely devoted to the theme. Under the baton of Dutch conductor Otto Tausk we hear three Reformation cantatas by J.S. Bach and Felix Mendelssohn’s Fifth Symphony (‘Reformation’), composed in 1830 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Lutheran Church’s primary confession of faith, the Augsburg Confession. In the cantatas the orchestra is joined by four vocal soloists and the Dominante Choir.
