Leila Josefowicz, who specializes in contemporary music, has her work cut out playing three concertos in one concert. In Helen Grime’s piece, restless and dreamy elements are in unending conflict; in Thomas Adès’s concerto the magical atmosphere goes into a tailspin towards the unknown. These extremes of the emotional scale are complemented by Karl Amadeus Hartmann’s Concerto funèbre, which was written on the eve of World War II as a final spark of intellectuality and spirituality. The ‘Dalia’s Mixtape’ concert series, familiar from last season, will once again thrill orchestra and audience alike!
