The traditional Independence Day concert sees the glorious past of Finnish music come face to face with a bright future as violinist Lilja Haatainen, only 12 years old, performs Jean Sibelius’s Humoresques. The Lahti Symphony Orchestra treats us to the beloved Karelia Suite and presents a forgotten gem from the shadows of history: Helvi Leiviskä’s Folk Dance Suite.
