This Lahti International Organ Festival concert, conducted by Ville Matvejeff, invites you on a journey with bright orchestral sonorities to Paris, St Petersburg and ancient Baghdad. The Symphonie Concertante by Joseph Jongen (b. 1926) is regarded as the most significant and virtuoso organ concerto of the 20th century. The soloist needs almost superhuman strength, extreme flexibility, the endurance of a long-distance runner and a feeling for beauty – in other words, the very abilities that distinguish Jimi Järvinen, a magician of the organ.
