In the early 2000s, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä, recorded orchestral arrangements of Finnish hymns – which became a gold record – and in the spring of 2003 the orchestra performed a concert of hymns at Senate Square in Helsinki Senate to around 7,000 listeners. Now, after a long time, the orchestra returns to this popular repertoire, and this hymn concert at the Church of the Cross includes many cherished tunes including Now the world is in bloom, Ein’ feste Burg, May the hymn of honour now resound and Clasp me, O Holy Spirit. The concert, conducted by Jutta Seppinen, will be hosted by Seppo Murto, a versatile church musician originally from Lahti. Come and experience these familiar tunes in colourful performances by a symphony orchestra; several items will include vocal contributions
