Nielsen – Salonen – Prokofjev

As well as writing symphonies, Nielsen composed a number of shorter orchestral works, and the best-known and most frequently performed of these, is the Helios Overture that opens this concert. Nyx by the composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen features for the first time in a concert by the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.

The concert concludes with Prokofiev’s classic Sinfonia concertante for cello and orchestra, with the German-French cellist Nicolas Altstaedt as soloist. This young world star has captivated audiences all over the world, and now it is Lahti’s turn to enjoy his virtuosity.
