VÄNSKÄ: THE RETURN
6 pm Pre-Concert Event with Osmo / Carpenter’s Workshop
Osmo Vänskä, the principal architect of the ‘small town miracle’, honorary conductor, returns to the helm of his former orchestra. The programme contains all the ingredients for an unforgettable concert: a new work by Vänskä himself, a symphony voted the best in history and a rarely heard piece with soloist. Kurt Weill composed his Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra just three years before his gigantic Dreigroschenoper. The American violinist Erin Keefe, leader of the Minnesota Orchestra, takes us to the convivial Berlin of the 1920s, with its cigar smoke and its sarcasm.
